America needs role models to show other Americans how to create unity in our county. You make a difference by becoming one of these role models. You can be a powerful role model by yourself. You can be more powerful by joining the SouthShore Alliance and being part of a team of role models. Role models that inspire other Americans in our community.
Stephen Covey famously stated, "Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply." You can be a powerful role model by developing the skill for empathic listening to build trust, solve real problems, and foster genuine connection.

Informed citizens understand multiple perspectives on important issues. By understanding others, you can build trust when listening to and understanding other opinions. In addition, you can gain a fuller view of complex issues.
Thomas Jefferson stated “You are not entitled to your opinion. You are entitled to your informed opinion. Citizenship is a tough occupation which obliges the citizen to make his own informed opinion.”
These methods will help you develop an informed opinion:
Respectful conversation – spontaneous discussion on issue
Structured discussion – read article and answer prepared questions
Discussion series – multiple structured discussions on a complex issue
Common ground discussion – practice negotiation and compromise
